About the Department

Startup India is a flagship initiative of the Government of India, intended to build a strong eco-system for nurturing innovation and Startups in the country that will drive sustainable economic growth and generate large scale employment opportunities. The initiative is spearheaded by Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of commerce. As part of the Startup India Action Plan, The Startup India Hub was also announced by the Hon'ble PM on 16th January 2016 and the hub is currently hosted under Invest India. The Hub’s mandate is to serve as a single point of contact for the entire Start-Up Ecosystem, enable exchange of knowledge and provide access to funding, market, and mentorship.

Key Responsibilities


1. Project Delivery

  • Deliver the purpose & mandate of Startup India Hub: Manage the operations and activities to achieve its goals, ensuring proper rules, policies, and procedures are in place.
  • Strategic Planning and Execution: Develop and implement strategies aligned with department priorities.
  • Coordinate and Allocate Resources: Ensure timely and efficient project execution through strong coordination.
  • Activity Tracking: Handle budgeting, milestone tracking, and delivery in line with Startup India’s objectives.
  • Monitor and Control Project Progress: Track progress, provide updates, and ensure transparency and accountability.
     

2. Team Management

  • Lead and Motivate Team Members: Guide and inspire team members to perform well and create a positive work environment.
  • Set Clear Goals and Expectations: Define and communicate roles and objectives clearly.
  • Facilitate Collaboration: Work across teams to align strategies with goals.
  • Monitor Performance and Provide Feedback: Regularly review team performance and support improvement.
     

3. Stakeholder Engagement

  • Engagement with Diverse Stakeholders: Collaborate with government, startups, investors, mentors, and others.
  • Develop Effective Communication: Create strategies to keep stakeholders informed and engaged.
  • Manage Expectations: Align stakeholder needs with goals, addressing issues as they arise.
  • Build and Maintain Relationships: Maintain positive interactions and regular feedback with stakeholders.
     

4. Strategic Leadership

  • Market Analysis and Need Gap Analysis: Research trends and opportunities, and communicate insights to leadership.
  • Innovation and Improvement: Encourage new ideas and continuous process improvement.
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure regulatory compliance and manage organizational risks.
  • Other Duties: Take on additional tasks assigned by DPIIT as needed.
     

Qualifications

  • Educational Background: Master’s degree in Business, Policy, Economics, Data Science, Business Analytics, Social Sciences, Engineering, or related fields.
  • Experience: 15+ years of experience in innovation, startup, and/or government ecosystem. Should have managed and handled a team in the past.
  • Project Management: Experience in handling cross-functional projects and ensuring timely execution.
  • Problem-Solving Ability: Ability to think critically and resolve challenges effectively.
  • Technical Proficiency with an Analytical Mindset: Strong ability to work towards problem solving and project delivery.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in management and reporting.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to articulate thoughts clearly, actively listen to others, take feedback, and keep all stakeholders transparently informed on all aspects of project management.
