The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India is constructing the 1506 km long Western DFC (connecting Dadri in Uttar Pradesh to Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT) in Mumbai) and 1875 km long Eastern DFC (connecting Sahnewal in Punjab to Dankuni in West Bengal) wherein the Sonnagar-Dankuni section is proposed for execution through the PPP route.
These two projects will transverse through the designated industrial clusters of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand and will decongest the already saturated road network. They aim at transforming the fundamentals of logistics infrastructure in the country and will decongest already saturated road network while also reducing the Green House Gas (GHG) emissions in transport sector in India.
Project Monitoring Group (PMG) has been actively involved in monitoring the progress of Eastern and Western Dedicated Freight Corridors and has been instrumental in resolving multiple issues affecting the construction of these corridors.
As a result of regular reviews and timely intervention, PMG recently facilitated resolution of a land transfer issue hampering the construction of Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor from Dankuni Jn. (W.8.) to Ludhiana (Punjab) in West Bengal. The land parcel of ~45 acres belonged to Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) in West Bengal and was required by Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) as per the project alignment.
The issue revolved around differences in valuation of land and was pending since 2017-18 due to the involvement of various stakeholders at different stages. PMG through consistent follow ups, due-diligence, and regular reviews with SAIL, DFCCIL, G/o West Bengal and DPIIT was successful in facilitating the resolution of this issue.
Since 2021, PMG has facilitated resolution of more than 50 issues impeding project execution of the 1856 km long EDFC spanning across 6 states. These issues relate to acquisition of land, grant of forest clearances and shifting of utilities among others.
PMG would continue to support DFCCIL and other agencies in their endeavour of timely completion mega infrastructure projects.
