Every year, the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting brings together top government, business, and civil society decision makers to address major global issues and priorities for the year ahead.

The 54th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum will take place from January 15–19, 2024, in Davos, Switzerland, on the theme ‘Rebuilding Trust’ to restore collective agency and reinforce the fundamental principles of transparency, consistency, and accountability among leaders. Over 100 countries, all major international organisations, the Forum’s 1000 partner companies, civil society leaders, foremost experts, young changemakers, and social entrepreneurs are expected to attend the WEF annual meeting in Davos.

India’s Journey at WEF

India's journey at WEF began in the year 1984. Over the decades, India has emerged as a resilient, innovative, and agile nation, transforming itself into the world's most attractive investment destination. WEF served as a great platform to showcase the growth stories of India’s sunrise sectors and foster global connections.

The same was reflected during the COVID-19 crisis. India’s IT sector proved instrumental in keeping the world operational during the pandemic. India's pharmaceutical industry, ranking third globally, provided life-saving vaccines and medical supplies, showcasing its capabilities and the immense possibilities the sector holds.

In recent years, India's role at WEF has evolved from being a participant to a solution provider. India’s ambitious climate action plan, focus on renewable energy, digital transformation, and commitment to inclusive growth have resonated deeply with the global audience.

At Davos 2023, India emphasised the need for collective action and a shared vision for a better future. In celebration of India's 75 years of independence, 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav', and the assumption of India’s G20 Presidency, India amplified its presence at Davos by taking up three dedicated lounges, which showcased India’s investment opportunity, infrastructural landscape, and inclusive and sustainable growth story.

India at Davos 2024

Building on its successful G20 leadership and commitment to "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" (One Earth, One Family), India is back at Davos 2024, poised to shape a future of global cooperation and sustainability. Aligned with the WEF theme this year, ‘Rebuilding Trust,’ India's presence unfolds across three key Centres:

  • India Engagement Centre: This will showcase India's digital prowess, thriving startups, and energy sector to foster economic and technological connections.
  • Experience India Centre: Visitors can immerse themselves in India's cultural vibrancy, sustainability initiatives, and emerging technologies, discovering the nation's diverse potential.
  • India Investment Centre: The Centre will be a hub for forging partnerships and exploring investment opportunities across various sectors, driving economic growth and progress.

These centres will host multiple roundtables, panel discussions, fireside chats and other exciting events with several government and industry stakeholders on significant issues such as sustainability, artificial intelligence, and the future of manufacturing in India.

Through these centres, India seeks to engage, experience, and invest in a future built on trust and collaboration, showcasing its commitment to a brighter world for all.

Conclusion

As per the recent United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) World Investment Report, India remains a favoured destination for global investors, attracting FDI worth over $71 Bn in FY 2022–23. Despite the challenges thrown by swiftly changing global scenarios, India’s gross domestic product (GDP) was at a promising 7.2% in the same year. India’s presence at the WEF will further solidify its position as a trusted global partner and a resilient economy.

With its commitment to sustainability, innovation, and inclusive growth, India at the World Economic Forum is dedicated to the vision of not only shaping its future but also contributing to a more equitable and prosperous world.
