Underscoring the importance of futuristic technologies while presenting the union budget for the upcoming financial year today, the finance minister urged the domestic animation, visual effects, gaming, and comic (AVGC) industry to tap into the growing Indian market by effectively utilising the high end skills possessed by India's large demographic dividend, particularly the youth. Highlighting government support to aid the nascent Indian industry towards a future of higher growth and global competitiveness, the minister announced the setting up of a AVGC Promotion Task Force comprising of all relevant stakeholders. Among the many functions envisioned for this taskforce, one of the crucial ones will be to recommend ways to realize the huge untapped potential of this sector both within and outside India and subsequently build domestic capacity and standards for serving local and international markets through large scale job opportunities and deployment of latest technologies.
