Telangana is a major IT Hub & Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Hub

Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana, is considered as the Life Sciences Capital of India with over 800 life sciences companies.

Telangana, located in the south of India, is one of India’s youngest states (provinces). Since its creation in 2014, Telangana has been at the forefront of development with innovative policy initiatives to encourage the establishment of business ventures and investments. The state has consistently been among the top performer state in the ‘Ease of Doing Business’ ranking by the Government of India.

The policy framework, infrastructure availability and access to human capital had made Hyderabad a preferred destination for the tech companies. The state contributes 30% to India's Pharmaceutical Production and its capital has 19 Life Sciences & MedTech Incubators. As a pharma and life sciences hub, Hyderabad is poised to grow to a $100 Bn business generator by 2028, up from $13 Bn now.

The growing life sciences & pharmaceutical ecosystem of the state has Pharma City (Hyderabad Pharma City (HPC) is the world's largest integrated cluster for pharmaceutical industries with a thrust on R&D and manufacturing), Genome Valley, Medical Devices Park & Biopharma-Hub. The state contributes nearly one-third to India’s production and one-fifth to its exports in the pharmaceutical sector.

The state is one of the leading producers and exporters of horticulture crops, including lemons, oranges, and turmeric. Sericulture & Fisheries are other sustainable sectors, with the state having the third largest pool of inland fisheries resources in the country. The state has a large number of manufacturing units in the food processing, non-metallic minerals, plastics and electrical equipment sectors.

Hyderabad, the state capital of Telangana is the most “Liveable City in India” for the fifth consecutive year by Mercer. It was also ranked number one under the category 'Top 10 Aerospace Cities in Cost Effectiveness'. The city was awarded the AIPH ‘Green City’ Award in 2022.

The Telangana State Industrial Project Approval and Self-certification System (TS-iPASS) Act in 2014 provides clearances to mega projects within 15 days and projects of other nature within 30 days, i.e., shortest in the country. The state is also the only one in the country to have introduced the 'Right to Clearance' for industrialists to get industrial clearances.

Genome Valley, the largest R&D cluster in India, is gaining traction as the “Vaccine Capital of the world”. 4 out of 5 leading vaccine manufacturers in India are already in Genome Valley. Biopharma Hub (B-Hub) is a flagship initiative for Genome Valley wherein the state is partnering with Cytiva to strengthen the Biopharma industry in the state by setting up a Biopharma scale-up facility.

One of the first RT-PCR Kits approved by ICMR was developed in India from Hyderabad. The first indigenously developed vaccine for Covid-19 is the result of the intense efforts of Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech.

Telangana is home to India’s largest Textiles Park – Kakatiya Mega Textile Park.

It is the 3rd highest cotton-producing state in India with an annual production of about 5 Mn bales (15% of India’s production). This is supported by the spinning industry with an aggregate capacity of about 1 Mn spindles.

The industry is further powered by 43,455 power looms & 35,926 handloom weavers.

Telangana houses over 250 companies employing more than 50,000 employees across different sub-segments and contributes 6% of total Electronic Production of India.

It has two Electronic Manufacturing Clusters (EMCs) at E-City attracting investments across the electronics value chain, R&D and Design Centers from majors such as Foxconn, Apple, OnePlus etc.  

The Government is working on various initiatives to establish Telangana as a global electronics manufacturing hub and create 1 Mn jobs by 2030 and 1.5 Mn jobs by 2032.

Telangana has also been on the forefront of promoting the use and development of new-age technologies like AI, ML, drones and blockchain

Telangana became the first State to launch an actionable policy framework for Artificial Intelligence. The Telangana AI Mission (T-AIM) has been formed in partnership with NASSCOM to execute the strategy.

Cloud adoption has been mandated within the government and an easy to adopt framework has been released to support the same.

Agritech has been given a push through the initiatives of AI-based Pest Management, AI4AI – in partnership with WEF, and the National e-Governance Plan for Agriculture.

Through Medicine from The Sky (MFTS), Telangana became the 1st state to pilot Beyond Visual Range of Sight (BVLOS) drone delivery of vaccines and essentials.

The state has adopted solutions like RTDAI to incorporate the use of technology for efficient delivery of services and e-governance. Several such new-age technology-based e-governance solutions are being worked upon every day.
