About the Department
Invest India is the National Investment Promotion and Facilitation Agency under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. It hosts teams working with various government initiatives such as Make in India, Startup India, AGNii, and PMG.
Invest India is looking to hire an experienced Legal specialist with a strong understanding legal framework of India.
Key Responsibilities
Contract Management:
- To Review draft & negotiate all contracts/MOU’s entered by the company with vendors, suppliers, service providers, government, international bodies etc. ensuring compliance with legal requirements and company policies.
- Draft Legal notices, replies, letters/communications and handle litigation/pre litigations matters effectively.
- To provide professional legal advice and guidance on a wide range of legal matters, including corporate law, commercial contracts, dispute resolution, IPR etc.
- To provide and set strategic direction, oversee various legal regulatory and government affairs related matters and be accountable for compliance in all areas of laws and have preventive measures in place.
- Conduct legal research & analysis to ensure compliance with trade laws & Regulations across various jurisdictions.
- Maintain a centralised contract repository and implement process for efficient contract management.
Data Protection:
- Setting up data protection framework. Supporting, guiding and directing the privacy and data protection compliance of personal data across the organization.
Trade:
- Advising on aspects of FDI and Trade. Understand the trade agreements or treaties between home country and other countries that may impact trade promotion activities. This includes preferential trade agreements, free trade agreements, and bilateral investment treaties. This includes assisting relevant business lines with performing due diligence and drafting.
- Review Trade documentation and procedures to identify and mitigate compliance risk.
- Stay updated on changes in trade laws and regulations and communicate potential impacts to relevant stakeholders.
Miscellaneous:
- To create SOP’s, develop and have training programs for non-legal functions on contracts, intellectual property, confidentiality, marketing law issues, etc., where necessary.
- To conduct legal research, monitor local legal developments in countries of operation, and assess their impact on the organization and its operations, proactively identify legal risks and provide recommendations for due compliance.
Working closely with key functions and various stakeholders in teams like business, procurement, IT and HR
Qualifications
- LL.B/LL.M from a university recognized in India.
- At least 6-8 years' experience in the practice of law, a combination of law firm and in-house counsel experience preferred. Prior government experience will be a plus.
- Possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with both legal and non-legal stakeholders. Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners in diverse cultural settings.

- Ability to think strategically, take strategic risks and make tough decisions.
